Sure you do not need (and should not!) run ifmail as root, but you
cannot use full features of ifmail if you cannot configure your MTA
and newsfeeds to feed ifmail powered channels, and tell uugetty to
run ifcico on incoming fidonet calls. You need to be a sysadmin to
do all this.
