You should check out mgetty. It's one of the best getty programs I've
ever seen, complete with vgetty (for voice modems, if you have one) they
can handle any kind of incoming call and cooperate with all outgoing
processes just fine as well.

I'm sure you can find mgetty+sendfax on sunsite.unc.edu more than likely
in the /pub/Linux/system/Network/serial directory (or someplace
similar).
